Key Points about how a Tuxedo fits:
- Size- Short, Regular, or Tall
- Fit- Classic/Regular, Modern, Slim or Skinny
- Rise- how much room you have in the crotch. Usually the rise is 12” for a Regular fit. This is good for men with a husky build or thicker thighs. Classic fit also has pleats on the front waistband to allow more room for bigger thighs.. A Slim fit tux will have a shorter rise maybe 10” or less depending on the cut), and typically a flat front (no pleats)
- Waistband- Classic Tuxedos have clips & sliders so you can adjust up to 3”. This type of pant usually sits around the belly button because the sliders are also part of the front pocket and will buckle (not lay correctly) should it sit below the belly. Others can be let out or taken in typically between 2” at the back center seam
- Hem- The bottom of the pant that sits on your shoe- usually adjustable by the tailor to fit your length
Lapels- the front flaps on the jacket above the buttons There are 3 types:
- Notch- most popular
- Shawl- slice round curve
- Peak- small peak is modern, larger peaks were popular in the 70s
